KBL Round 24 (Regular Season): Anyang defeat LG Sakers

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Sakers (18-7) in Changwon on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Anyang (17-9) 72-56. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Sakers. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. It was a good game for who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 5 assists. American power forward Johnny OBryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Nigerian center Micheal Eric (211-1988, college: Temple) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds for LG Sakers. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Anyang moved-up to second place. Defending champion LG Sakers still keep top position with seven games lost. Anyang are looking forward to face Seoul Knights (#5) on the road in the next round. LG Sakers will play against Seoul Thunders (#9) and are hoping to win this game.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Egis (16-10) against ninth ranked Mobis Phoebus (9-17) on Sunday night. Host Egis were defeated by Mobis Phoebus in a tough game in Busan 78-84. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Rayshaun Hammonds (206-1998, college: Georgia) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and Moobeen Park who added 14 points and 9 assists during the contest. Mobis Phoebus' coach Dong-hyun Cho allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Mobis Phoebus moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Seoul Thunders and Sono SG. KCC Egis at the other side dropped to the third position with ten games lost. They share it with Wonju DB. Mobis Phoebus will play against league's leader LG Sakers in Changwon in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. KCC Egis will play at home against Wonju DB and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Daegu was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Knights (15-11) played at the court of 7th ranked Skygunners (9-17). Knights managed to secure a 7-point victory 77-70 on Monday. The winners were led by Jameel Warney who had that evening a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds by Nathan Knight did not help to save the game for Sono SG. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Seoul Knights maintains fifth position with 15-11 record. Loser Skygunners keeps the seventh place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Mobis Phoebus and Seoul Thunders. Seoul Knights will meet at home league's second-placed Anyang in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sono SG will play against Daegu (#10) and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 24 Seoul Thunders were beaten by Wonju DB on the road 81-67. Suwon KT destroyed Seoul Thunders on its own court 111-86.
The most impressive performance of 24th round was 39 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds by Isaiah Hicks of Suwon KT.



LG Sakers - Anyang 56-72

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Wonju DB (16-10) beat at home 7th ranked Samsung Thunders (9-17) 81-67 on Sunday. Wonju DB looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The winners were led by Egyptian forward Essam Mostafa (206-1999, college: MTSU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Ethan Alvano (185-1996, college: CSUSM) supported him with 14 points and 8 assists. Alvano is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds by American center Rayshaun Hammonds (206-1998, college: Georgia) did not help to save the game for Seoul Thunders. Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) added 21 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Wonju DB have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with KCC Egis. Seoul Thunders lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 17 games lost. They share it with Mobis Phoebus and Sono SG. Wonju DB will meet KCC Egis (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Suwon KT looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The winners were led by American center Isaiah Hicks (206-1994, college: UNC, agency: Slash Sports) who scored that evening 39 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (on 15-of-17 shooting from the field) and Sungwook Kang supported him with 12 points and 7 assists. Four Sonicboom players scored in double figures. Even 26 points and 8 rebounds by Turkish power forward Kerem Kanter (208-1995, college: Xavier) did not help to save the game for Seoul Thunders. Geunhwi Geun-Hwi added 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Suwon KT maintains sixth position with 13-14 record. Seoul Thunders lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Mobis Phoebus and Sono SG. Suwon KT will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
